On the 9th of October, 2024, from 14.00 - 16.00, CET, the EUCAST
subcommittee on Anti-Mycobacterial Susceptibility Testin (AMST) will
discuss and answer questions and comments raised during the public_consultation

EUCAST is interested in collecting Legionella pneumophila MIC distributions
Derar colleagues,
EUCAST is in need of updating Legionella pneumophila MIC distributions. If you have performed MIC determination on L. pneumophila, we are interested in obtaining your raw data, irrespective of what method was used. Use the form for contributing MIC distributions and in the last column, describe the method used. Submit data to gunnar.kahlmeter[at]eucast.org.

Colistin MIC testing - the EUCAST warning extended
The Warning
against methods used for colistin MIC testing has been extended
following a message from Bruker Daltonics against three lots of their
UMIC Colistin MIC device. Since yesterday we have been informed by the
producer that the failures were with three specific lots (240410COL,
240418COL, 240506COL), and that more recent lots are not affected.
EUCAST has not investigated the failing lots, nor the more recent lots.

Breakpoint tables are used together with other EUCAST guidance
The EUCAST breakpoint tables are part of a system for categorising
microorganisms as susceptible (S and I) and resistant (R) to agents
approved for use in the treatment of infectious diseases. Breakpoint tables are
freely available but we would like to remind users of other parts of
the system which are equally important. These are for example "Expert Rules" and "Expected Phenotypes", "What to do when there are no breakpoints" and other guidance documents, such as those dealing with how to cope with "IE",
"Dash", "Breakpoints in brackets" and disease specific breakpoints. We would also like to remind users of the public consultation process in which everyone can participate. Consultations for autum 2024 are being prepared:
- Endocarditis breakpoints are under review - discussions ongoing and consultation is being prepared.
- Nocardiae spp - breakpoints and MIC/Zone diameter distributions and
criteria are being developed - more difficult than anticipated. Species
identification, species multitude and diversity of results are
problematic. The good news is that it seems disk diffusion can be made
to work better than initially anticipated.
- A version of the EUCAST dosing table relevant for children, is under
preparation and we hope to share a first version for comments and
questions in September/October.
Please visit the EUCAST News page to read more.
All changes to the EUCAST website and to AST recommendations and guidance are listed in a table on the EUCAST website!
With kind regards, EUCAST
